Program Objective

With over half of the current population in America being overweight or obese, the realization that few people maintain the level of fitness necessary for a full and healthy life is readily apparent. In addition to immediate health problems, obesity also acts as a precursor to a variety of diseases including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, depression, and anxiety. In addition to the personal health risk, obese individuals incur up to 44% more in health care costs*, or roughly $1500 more per year**, than those in a healthy weight range. Aiming to reduce this health risk to the individual and positively impact health care costs, Innovative Care Management created Steps for Life, a wellness program that encourages the individual to take a proactive involvement in their health and fitness through a fun and simple walking program.

Program Description

When it comes to exercising, nothing is as simple and easy as walking. There is no complex equipment, no gym membership, nothing but a pair of shoes and a place to go. With Steps for Life, we provide an uncomplicated, cost effective means to monitor progress, encourage activity, and make the process fun and exciting. By following the 10,000 Steps per Day program, a system designed to meet the optimal range of physical activity to maintain health and fitness, the individual has a tangible goal in mind. The key component to meeting this goal is the pedometer, a simple device worn at the waistline that senses movement to record steps. Through the use of this device, the individual is able to monitor their progress throughout the day, effortlessly recording their physical activity as they work, shop, or whatever else their day may include. You can't manage what you can't measure, and with the pedometer, the process becomes both fun and challenging.
